The Legend of L’Escalier Tete Chien

Many years ago, before the Europeans and other nations had invaded the “New World”, a huge snake left the Minoco River in South of America and journeyed to the tiny island of Dominica in the Eastern Caribbean. It finally entered the island via a small village known as Snake-Coe located at the southern end of the Carib Territory.

It is believed that the huge “Serpent” is still living in a cave in the heights of Majini Mountain of Snake-Coe, overlooking the village.  It is believed that the Kalinago, the first habitants of the land, visited the “Great Serpent” a long time ago. They smoked their tobacco and offered the ashes with their special prayer to the serpent at the entrance of its cave. The snake transformed itself to a white man and begun to communicate with them and offered assistance to any request – medicine for sickness, luck for men with the ladies and so forth.

“L’escalier Tete Chien” is a premier tourist site in Dominica, visited by thousands of tourists around the world every year.
